The most common question I’m asked is how I come up with my ideas for Fine Art Portraits. I have a notebook filled with possible next creations. My biggest regret is having more ideas than I can ever create in this lifetime.
What exactly is luxe portraiture? I define it as a portrait that is a step or two above a standard portrait. It is more artful. More soulful. More creative. It is more than just a capture of someone looking at the camera smiling.
Fine art photography is created with the photographer’s artistic vision. It is not simply documenting a subject as the camera sees it—such as in the case of photojournalism—but it is using the camera as a tool to create an artistic vision.
Let me begin with the premise that no fine art ideas — whether surreal, conceptual photography, or from a personal place of exploration — begin with editing. Like all art pieces or even pure photographs, editing is only as good as the original image and concept, as long as it is shot correctly with the proper forethought and attention to detail.
