My name is Michael Anthony with Shutter Magazine and I am a Los Angeles based Wedding and Portrait Photographer. Today I have the unique opportunity to work with the Panasonic S1R to create 3 unique images on location in Utah.
I have heard amazing things about this high-resolution camera, and I have been eager to get it out in the field to try it out. Suffice to say that Panasonic did not disappoint.
Environmental Portrait
For my first shot, I wanted to create one of my staple environmental portraits. I used the Lumix 50 1.4 to frame up my subject in the negative space of the sky.
One of the things that I love about a high resolution camera, is that when I place my subject to be smaller in the scene, I am able to truly resolve all of the detail on their face, attire, and other details.

For the second image, I absolutely LOVED the way that the wind was blowing our model’s veil. I decided to put the model’s back to the sun, and waited until we had the perfect motion in the gown to take the shot. Being that this scene was high-dynamic range, with a ton of highlights silhouetting her, I was super pleased to see the S1R be able to recover much of the detail in the image.

FINE-ART IMAGE
For this last image, I was inspired when the wind blew the veil in front of the bride’s face. I wanted to see if I could silhouette her with a high-key image. Being that I had to focus on the bride’s shadow, rather than the veil itself, I was incredibly excited to see that the camera was able to grab focus of her so quickly and easily. It made getting this final shot simple, and allowed me to interact with the subject rather than focusing on my cam.

The Panasonic S1R is a powerful camera, with excellent dynamic range, great focusing, and impeccable color. The Lumix L-Mount glass is very sharp, and you can see that Panasonic has built an incredible system for photographers to capture amazing photos. Whether I am shooting a wedding in Los Angeles, or a portrait session anywhere else in the world, I know that this camera will give me good results no matter what conditions I am shooting in.
